Self-Assessments & Reflections

Leading Unit: Human Behaviour
Know Thyself Assessment

Based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) my personality type is :

Introvert Sensing Feeling Judging (ISFJ)

Breakdown:
Introvert (11%) - Slight preference of Introversion over Extroversion
Sensing (12%) - Slight preference of Sensing over Intuition
Feeling (38%) - Moderate preference of Feeling over Thinking
Judging (22%) - Slight preference of Judging over Perceiving

Being an ISFJ relates to my personal leadership development because by knowing the traits of my personality type, I can have a better understanding of myself. Through this assessment I found out that I am 11% more introverted than extroverted. To me, this means that I would need to work more on being more outgoing and interacting with others.

ISFJs based on the personality type indicator are characterized by having a desire to serve others (their need to be needed). They are often unappreciated for their work, but ironically, it is because they prove over and over that they can be relied on for their loyalty and unstinting high quality work. This causes those around them to often take them for granted. Admittedly, the problem is sometimes aggravated by the ISFJs themselves where they are notoriously bad at delegating, "if you want it done right, do it yourself". From this personality assessment, I found out that I am a methodical and accurate worker, where I have very good memory and analytic ability. Additionally, I work well with people in small-groups or one-on-one situations.

This related to my personal development where I know what my strengths and weaknesses are. By knowing that I am very good at memorization and possess analytic abilities, it proves me with insight on what I could focus on for my future career in order to excel. This assessment also provides me with information on what I need to improve on. Through this, I know that I need to stop providing stress for myself and instead share the workload with others as well.

Unit: Management Challenges
Stress Self-Test Assessment

Personality Type : A+

Based on this self assessment my scoring results totaled to 132 points, which puts me in the type A+ category since my score is higher than 120 points. This means that I tend to bring stress onto myself even though some situations are relatively stress-free for others. Type A personality types are always moving, walking and eating rapidly; doing or trying to do several things at once; and trying to schedule more in less time.

These results and characteristics of the type A personality relates to my personal development where I am now aware of what improvements I need to make on myself to reduce my stress level. By knowing that I create and reflect stress onto myself, I can adopt skills and ways to reduce my own stress that I inflect on myself.  I can do this by calming down and prioritize things in order of importance. I believe that if I start planning and creating timed schedules that I have to follow; it would greatly decrease the amount of stress I place on myself since I know that I can get everything done on time. This self-assessment allows me to reflect on what I inflict and apply to myself and thus, provide insight on how to apply change.

Chapter 4: Self-Assessment
Learning Tendencies

Learning style : Accommodator

Based on the self-assessment, my dominant learning style is an accommodator where my learning characteristic is through concrete experience and active experimentation. An accommodator's greatest strength is doing things and solving problems intuitively. They are more of a risk taker and they perform well when they are required to react to immediate circumstances.

This self-assessment of my learning tendencies allows me to have a greater understanding about myself, where I can improve on my personal development. By knowing that I am a great accommodator, I can use this information to my advantage while I am trying to learn something new. It also provides me with data on what I lack in, which is being an assimilator, where I can focus more on expanding my horizons and building myself so that I can learn through abstract concepts and through observation. These assessments provide me with information for changes and improvements that I can make on my learning skills and how I can use my skill as an accommodator to my advantage.
